Mr Jason Chua (President)
Singapore-born, Jason Chua is an award-winning chef and accomplished business professional. He played key roles in the pre-opening of some of Australia’s most prestigious hotels, including the Regent Sydney and Melbourne, Hilton Sydney, Wentworth Sheraton Sydney (Rydges Wentworth) Darwin Rydges, Cairn Rydges, Perth Sheraton, and the Townsville Breakwater Casino Sheraton Hotel. Jason achieved industry recognition as the youngest non-European Executive Chef of a five-star hotel in Sydney, earning multiple medals at the Salon Culinaire in Sydney. His industry leadership includes serving as a National Judge for the Paddock to Plate competition and as a former committee member of the Restaurant & Caterer Association. After relocating to Queensland as Executive Chef for the opening of Rydges South Bank, he was promoted to Regional Executive Chef for Queensland and the Northern Territory, and had a short posting with the Shanghai Hotel planning teams. He also hosted prestigious events, including Penfolds Grange’s vintage launch dinners.
Dr Xiaying Qi (Vice President)
Dr Xiaying Qi is a Research Fellow and Lab Manager at Griffith University, affiliated with the School of Medicine and Dentistry and the Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics. Her work focuses on molecular cell biology, regenerative medicine and health technology innovation. As a passionate advocate for cultural inclusion and community engagement, she is committed to strengthening community cohesion, promoting cultural understanding, and empowering Queenslanders of Chinese heritage through meaningful engagement, collaboration, and representation. She is the secretary of Queensland Zhejiang United Association and a board member of the Lions Club of Brisbane Chinese.
Mr Aron Jun (Vice President)
Dr Kee Cheung OAM (Treasurer & Honorary President)
Dr Cheung is a NAATI accredited translator and a qualified Justice of the Peace. He has recently retired from working at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Dr Cheung has served on the executive committees of various community organisations including Ethnic Broadcasting Association of Qld, Chinese Ethnic Broadcasting Association of Qld, Qld Chinese Forum, Ethnic Communities Council of Qld, the Lions Club of Brisbane Chinese, Chinese Museum of Qld, the Chinese University of Hong Kong Alumni Association in Qld, as well as the Qld China Council.
Siew Mei Lau (Secretary)
Siew is an award-winning author of four books, stories and poems published in several countries, including being translated. She is also a lawyer, who has worked as a Senior Corporate Counsel in a Fortune 500, publicly listed global technology company and was based in Europe for several years. She has been working in law firms in Brisbane since her return in August 2023 and is on the consulting committee of the Queensland Law Society for AI in Legal Practice. She represents the Multicultural Community Centre, is the Secretary of the Chinese Museum of Queensland, and is on the committee of the Australians of Chinese Heritage, Inc. She has also served the community in various other ways over the years.
Mr Clement Sham (Immediate Past President)
Clement is a highly experienced legal professional with a career spanning 16 years. As the first Chinese to lead a successful personal injury team, he has made significant contributions to the field, including being the first Chinese Queensland lawyer to win a case at the High Court of Australia. Beyond the legal industry, he has also been an active contributor to the community with a passion for advancing social causes and advocating for the underrepresented.
Mr Peter Low OAM (Honorary President)
Peter has over 30 years of experience in retail and wholesale business. He is also very dedicated and involved in the development and promotion of the Chinese Community where he has been involved in Queensland China Council, the Brisbane City Council Chinatown & Valley Malls Advisory Committee, the Chinese Museum of Queensland, Qld Chinese Forum, and Cathay Community Association and Australia Qld Fujian Association Inc.
Dr Peter Ho AM (Honorary President)
Dr Ho has over 35 years professional experience as a director, manager and civil/structural consultant in Australia and throughout the Asia Pacific region. He has served as expert witness and his experience covers a wide range of structures in the commercial, industrial, domestic and mining sectors. Dr Ho has served on the executive committees of various community organisations including Ethnic Broadcasting Association of Qld, Chinese Ethnic Broadcasting Association of Qld, Qld Chinese Forum, the Lions Club of Brisbane Chinese, Chinese Museum of Qld, as well as the Qld China Council.
